Position Summary:
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others): MedImmune has a new opportunity for a Scientist I/Scientist II in the Protein Characterization Group within the Analytical Biochemistry Department. The successful candidate will carry out development and qualification of analytical methods of biopharmaceutical products, such as humanized monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins. She/he will be responsible for new method development and carbohydrate analysis in support process development and regulatory filings, as well as troubleshooting for projects in research and development. The candidate will work on complex and technically demanding projects where analysis of data requires an evaluation of multiple variables. He/she must possess a successful track record showing technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and independent lines of thought. She/he will utilize LCMS to identify and characterize carbohydrates and other post-translational modifications of proteins. The candidate will make detailed experimental observations, review and analyze data, and interpret experimental results. The candidate will advise management on new research and development directions, and he/she will present scientific data to both internal audiences within the company and external scientific colleagues. The ability to follow SOPs, policies, and regulations, and to perform routine lab equipment maintenance is required. As the position will require constant collaborative interactions with co-workers across functional groups, he/she must be able to work in a team structure and interface with different groups within research and development departments. In addition, she/he will have excellent leadership qualities, an ability to provide strategic direction for projects and scientific investigations.
REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS: Scientist I II
Requirements/Qualifications: Having passion on science, the candidate must have expertise in the area of glycoprotein characterization using HPLC/UPLC and mass spectrometry with deep understanding on carbohydrate structures and functions, as well as knowledge on molecular biology and immunology. Experiences with oligosaccharide, sialic acid, as well as glycan analysis using enzyme digestions, fluorescence labeling, and LC/MS are required. Knowledge of antibody-drug conjugate is a plus. Excellent teamwork and communication skills including good documentation and writing skills are critical. Good multi-tasking, time management and organizational skills are essential. Supervisory, time/project management, and regulatory filing experience are desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
