JOB DESCRIPTION: Scientist
Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Scientist to join our CardioMetabolic Diseases Research located at our US headquarters in Ridgefield, CT. As a Scientist, you will form part of a multidisciplinary group responsible for assay development, compound screening and target validation to support drug discovery projects. The candidate must be proficient in the development, establishment and execution of molecular, biochemical and cellular methods and technologies. Examples of desired techniques include quantification of protein or RNA from tissues, enzyme and receptor assays, isolation of primary cells and culture of cell lines. Additional skills in immunohistochemistry, in situ analysis of gene expression in tissues or skills in ex vivo assays considered a plus.

Responsibilities:
* Designs and implements assays for drug discovery (compound screening and characterization/profiling, target validation)
* Communicates well with project teams. Works as an integral member of teams to propose, design and support assays for project development.
* Proposes novel experiments/technologies. Designs and executes non-routine experiments on a basis of literature analyses with minimal supervision
* Initiates and completes routine procedures in an independent and efficient manner; Troubleshoots effectively and solves scientific problems independently; Operates lab equipment and is independently responsible for maintenance
* Demonstrates expertise in field. Independently applies basic scientific principles, performs literature searches, attends scientific meetings, and keeps abreast of literature in own field
* Assists and contributes to supervising/training junior level scientist and technicians.
* Communicates results in oral and written presentations. Write protocols, procedures, and technical reports; Provide input for scientific reports. Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics.
* Complies with company requirements (i.e- applicable regulations, safety, SOPs, etc.
Requirements:
* B.S. or M.S. in Biological Sciences or related scientific discipline with 5+ years experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
* General knowledge of cell biology, physiology and pharmacology desire.
* Research Skills:
* Experience with assay development and cell culture techniques is required
* Cell culture techniques (cell lines, primary cultures, eg PBMC, primary monocytes, lymphocytes, bone marrow)
* Cell biology: ELISA, Western blotting, Staining and immunofluorescence methods, functional assays including cellular proliferation, chemotaxis, cytokine secretion, pulse-chase methods for monitoring product formation
* Molecular biology: RNA quantification, PCR, DNA and RNAi transfection
* Immunocytochemistry and/or in situ hybridizations
* Design and troubleshoot experiments based on literature search
* Data and image processing for statistical analysis
