JOB DESCRIPTION: Scientist - Pathology

The Safety Assessment Department of Genentech is seeking a Pathologist-Scientist with experience in drug development and investigative research. As part of Development Sciences, Safety
Assessment Pathologists at Genentech provide scientific leadership and play an active role in the process of drug development from late
stage research through marketed products.

This role involves working in a collaborative team environment as part of the comprehensive safety assessment of Genentech therapeutics
by participating on project teams and by providing expertise in areas
of immunohistochemistry, advanced microscopy and image analysis technologies in support of the design, implementation and data analysis of both non-GLP and GLP investigative toxicology studies.

Responsibilities will include interdisciplinary project team research collaboration and leadership, design and conduct of investigative and mechanistic studies involving immunohistochemistry-based methods,
image analysis and other advanced microscopy technologies. Functional area mentorship, management of tissue cross-reactivity
studies, peer review of regulatory studies and representation of Genentech at meetings with regulatory authorities, as needed, will
also be components of this position.

Requirements:
Complex problem-solving, data analysis and investigative skills; Demonstrated theoretical/practical knowledge and technical abilities in molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, advanced microscopy and image analysis method development and application; Ability to work independently and leverage literature to develop and optimize
experimental methods; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Capability to build productive cross-functional collaborations both within and external to Genentech.

Education
DVM, PhD, board certification in Veterinary Pathology and 4-6 years experience in toxicologic and investigative pathology.
