JOB DESCRIPTION: Scientist I II
Title: Scientist I/II Location: MD, Gaithersburg - Corporate Headquarters Req: 01868
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others): MedImmune has a new opportunity for a Scientist I/II in the Characterization Group within the Analytical Biochemistry Department. The successful candidate will carry out development of methods for detection and quantitation of extractables and leachables in the biopharmaceutical products including recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies and vaccines. She/he will analyze extractables and leachables by various methods including gas and liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, infrared and Raman spectroscopy. The successful candidate will take a leading role in development and qualification of a wide variety of extractable/leachables methods, as well as identification and evaluation of new technologies. She/he will also be expected to be familiar with SOP and GLP requirements. The candidate will make detailed experimental observations, review and analyze data, and interpret experimental results. He/she will need to be able to solve technical problems using an experimental approach and develop new characterization methods. The candidate will present and discuss experimental results at group/project team meetings and scientific conferences. Finally, he/she must be able to work in a team structure and interface with different research and development departments.
REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS: Scientist I II
Requirements/Qualifications: This position requires a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with 1 to 8 years of relevant experience, preferably working in a bioanalytical environment in an industrial setting. A thorough understanding of GC, HPLC, mass spectrometry, infrared and Raman spectroscopy is required. Experience with chemical microscopy, electron microscopy and familiarity with protein formulations in pre-filled syringes are desired. Strong interpersonal skills, outstanding verbal and written communication skills are essential.
