JOB DESCRIPTION: Scientist IV
BASIC PURPOSE: The Department of Cardiovascular Disease at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has an opening for a Bachelors/Masters level scientist skilled in in vivo physiology/pharmacology. The research focus is on mechanisms that contribute to kidney disease. Primary responsibilities will require developing and/or establishing preclinical animal models to evaluate novel therapeutics with a primary focus on renal protection. Research efforts will utilize invasive and non-invasive techniques for monitoring acute and chronic blood pressure, metabolic status and renal function. The candidate will be expected to perform as a Study Director in support of drug development from new target validation to late stage projects by conducting animal studies with minimal supervision, interpreting data and communicating results (written and oral) and interacting effectively within a multidisciplinary, fast-paced team. Experience in handling and dosing of small and large laboratory animals as well as sterile surgical procedures and instrumentation for monitoring animal hemodynamics are required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Initiates, designs, interprets accurately, troubleshoots and completes routine procedures independently and efficiently; Initiates, designs, interprets accurately, troubleshoots and completes non-routine and difficult procedures generally without supervision; Conducts exploratory experiments
* Proposes, gains support for and implements ideas from individual’s knowledge of science and technology and understanding of drug discovery process
* Proposes, evaluates and implements new technologies; Independently applies basic scientific principles, performs literature searches, attends scientific meetings, and keeps abreast of literature in own field
* Effectively communicates and defends own work, orally and in writing, in the context of the team goals at meetings
* Demonstrates a solid level of technical proficiency in field; Trains technicians and junior level scientists in this field
* Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics
* Complies with applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies
* Participate in cross departmental project teams when assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
* Applicants should have relevant experience in vascular, renal physiology/pharmacology or other related fields.
* Hands-on experience, strong oral and written communication skills, well organized and an ability to work well with others in a team environment are also required.
* Bachelors/Masters level scientist skilled in in vivo physiology/pharmacology
