JOB DESCRIPTION: Scientist Senior Scientist
Vertex Pharmaceuticals is looking for a Senior Scientist to join our Materials Discovery and Characterization group.
The Materials Discovery and Characterization (MDC) Group within the Pharmaceutical Development Department at Vertex Pharmaceuticals engages in translational research and development in preformulation, solid-form discovery, analytical method development, API and drug product manufacturing control and biopharmaceutical chemistry. We seek a candidate scientist to help lead the biopharmaceutical activities within the Pharmaceutical Development Department. The position entails the development of absorption and pharmacokinetic (PK) models of compounds at both discovery and development stages to help guide animal and clinical formulation development. Additional responsibilities may include preformulation support to discovery and development projects at the Vertex site in Cambridge including toxicology formulation development and solid-form discovery.
REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS: Scientist Senior Scientist
The competitive candidate will have an MS or PhD in Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, or Biophysics (or equivalent) with a strong mathematical modeling background.
-The ability to work in a highly cross functional team environment is essential, including the ability to communicate at a technical level with members of research, pharmaceutical development, drug metabolism and clinical pharmacology groups. The candidate should have demonstrated the ability to develop complex mathematical models to simulate and analyze compound behavior in clinical and non-clinical systems.
-Previous experience in PK modeling using Gastroplus, WinNonlin and NONMEM is a plus. Several years of industrial experience in Pharmaceutical Development would further distinguish the candidate.
