JOB DESCRIPTION: Director, Finance
This position serves as the Head of Finance reporting to the Vice President and General Manager of the Syntonix subsidiary and is a core member of the management team charged with accelerating development of the Hemophilia franchise. This individual is responsible for all elements of financial planning, business analysis, and internal controls and compliance. Play a critical role in ensuring close alignment with Biogen Idec Finance during a period of rapidly expanding global activities and significantly increasing expense and complexity.
Core responsibilities include:
- Manages all aspects of financial and resource planning, including the development of long range plans, annual budgets, and quarterly forecasts through close coordination with local management and international finance teams
- Serves as a central point of coordination with the corporate Finance group in Cambridge as well as across a number of affiliates, particularly in the UK, India, China and Japan.
- Monitors ongoing business performance against budgets/forecasts and lead in-depth monthly and quarterly financial reviews. Explores and reports on reasons for variances, advising functional management on any actions required.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for developing and managing robust financial collaboration processes with our development and commercialization partner, Biovitrum.
- Manages two internal staff and a number of external contractors to support day-to-day activities at Syntonix and ensure overall compliance with EH&S, Financial, Regulatory and Clinical requirements and policies.
This individual demonstrates an unusual breadth of understanding and the ability to move fluidly across the full range of activities involved in biopharmaceutical drug development:
- Research and Pre-Clinical Development: Assists in establishing project goals and resource allocations to broaden and extend the franchise through both new projects and life-cycle initiatives.
- Clinical Development: Works with Syntonix Clinical Operations and BIIB Drug Development & Outsourcing group to implement effective processes for forecasting and tracking of clinical expenses across multiple global trials.
- CMC: Develops strong working relationships with Supply Chain Planning and PO&T Controller to manage both external contract manufacturing expenses and BIIB FTEs working across Technical Development, Manufacturing and Quality.
- Commercial: Works with commercial team to ensure that product and franchise forecasts are continuously updated to reflect latest market research and competitive intelligence. Will play a central role in evaluating/recommending commercial spend and infrastructure build to support major market launches and establish ROW market prioritization plans.
- Business Development: Core member of team responsible for evaluating and negotiating collaborations, product in-licensing, acquisitions and joint-ventures to maximize the value of the hemophilia franchise over time.
REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS: Director, Finance
Qualifications:
- Significant financial management experience ranging from business unit level strategic planning to detailed budgeting and decision support.
- High level of business acumen with the ability to identify key issues and questions and explain to others with diverse functional backgrounds.
- Excellent informal leadership skills with the ability to influence peers in business line functions.
- Experience working across cultures and companies to develop effective relationships and processes.
- Effective communicator with the ability to tailor message and delivery to both technical and senior audiences.
:MBA required, undergraduate degree in scientific or quantitative field strongly preferred.
