JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR, STRATEGIC PLANNING
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION: Provide senior management with actionable information and support around various types of projections, including, but not limited to, demand plans, long range plans, market projections, Plan/Update/LBE unit and dollar projections by Area/Country/Channel/ Customer, SKU rationalization, R&D Portfolio Analysis, and Ad-Hoc modeling/market analysis . Counsels senior leaders (President, Senior Vice Presidents, global leadership team) through the Plan/Update/LBE and LRP processes.
Primary goals for worldwide implementation include: 1) Create, implement, lead, and maintain a world-class demand planning process with a high level of forecast accuracy, including both short, medium, long range timeframes to aid in sales plans/updates/LBE’s, long range planning, short and mid-range production planning and long range capacity planning for the division.
2) Develop realistic new product launch plan projections and product end-of-life projections to minimize disruption/cost to the commercial and operations areas and maximize sales for worldwide product portfolios in both the coronary and endovascular businesses.
3) Create repeatable/on-going processes around the major worldwide planning cycles within Abbott Vascular including, Long Range Plan, R&D Portfolio Management Process, Updates/LBE’s, Unit and Sales Forecasts that apply to all levels of the organization. These processes to be repeatable and utilized by senior leadership worldwide.
4) Develop realistic market models to predict market growth, competitive position and market shares. Manage the “Analyzer” data application used by sales force and marketing teams to understand customer and brand trends and performance worldwide.
5) Utilize various sources of information to perform Competitive Intelligence to better understand the market place and give senior management adequate in-sight to the competitive landscape. Act as a consultant to senior leaders in delivering this information and guiding them to action/next-steps.
6) Support development of senior management communications/presentations for use with a variety of audiences including, corporate senior management, Abbott board of directors, professional associations, medical societies, etc.
7) Support Business Development in technology assessment, deal model creation, and due diligence for novel technologies and complementary businesses being considered for investment or acquisition.
8) Lead the S&OP organizations worldwide to ensure that the Demand and Planning functions for all products are aligned.
Core Job Responsibilities Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
• Establish sophisticated statistical forecast models and databases which allow valuation of R&D/future technologies in order to assess ROI / IRR. • Partner with Commercial Areas/Countries in the development of monthly demand forecasts and supply requirements, to drive the necessary S&OP requirements with Operations and supply adequate product to meet and exceed sales plans. Lead monthly Demand Planning meetings with Supply Chain and Manufacturing Operations to discuss current demand plans and necessary action items. Conduct monthly Supply Requirement meetings with operations to review Commercial requirements and determine feasibility of meeting those requirements (S&OP Process). • Act as a consultant to monitor and recommend modifications to manufacturing forecasts to optimize customer product supply service levels and days on hand finished goods inventory within assigned Area. Share responsibility with Area Sales and Marketing Management to achieve days on hand inventory targets. • Work proactively with Commercial Areas and Operations during times of Product Allocation and develop contingency plans to facilitate immediate action in response to sales/inventory changes and daily/weekly production issues that negatively impact the production and sales plans for assigned Area. • Develop market analytics for the annual Long Range Plan for Abbott Vascular. Work with Global Marketing and Finance to develop and deliver 5 and 10-year projections by Area and product and related presentations to support this information. • Develop and execute product EOL strategies in conjunction with Global and Area Marketing, Project Management, Finance, and Operations including inventory management, EOL production builds, transition plans from old products to new products, estimation of financial impact of EOL. • Establish benchmark models for assisting Global and Area Marketing in forecasting new products, managing the sales forecast, estimating cannibalization impacts and country roll-out strategies for each Area, such that a flexible strategy is maintained in support of changing dates (due to regulatory approvals, manufacturing scale-up and other variables). • Forecast and market model activities associated with supporting the R&D PMP process each year. Work with Worldwide Marketing and Program Management to maintain and update all PMP Forecast models, develop volume projections for all current and future product platforms, develop sales $ projections and incremental P&L's by project and prepare marketing presentation. • Support the annual Financial Planning process by working with Market Intelligence to provide detailed market analysis and market projections to US Sales and International Areas. • Work with Commercial and Finance to develop and deliver Update and Plan Consumption and Gross Sales Forecasts, Market Projections and related presentations to support this information. • Lead effort to explore/pilot novel offerings and partnership programs for the Administrative Customer. These projects include RFID, cath lab efficiency, etc.
REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS: DIRECTOR, STRATEGIC PLANNING
Basic Qualifications: .2-4 years of Marketing Management (preferred) .8-10 years of Strategic Planning .15+ years of Total combined minimum years of experience required (Not necessarily the sum of the above)
.Must have demonstrated leadership skills. .Knowledge and skills in Market Intelligence techniques and sales forecasting. .Experience with advanced forecasting techniques, such as regression analysis, cluster analysis, conjoint analysis and discrete choice modeling. .Experience interacting effectively with Senior Management cross-functionally .Experience in translating vague or poorly defined information needs into actionable, researchable issues. .Experience in dealing with multiple cultures and nationalities around the world are critical to effective performance. Knowledge of mathematics, statistics and PC skills. .Domestic and International interface experience. .Project Management experience. Bachelors Degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field. MBA is required.
