JOB DESCRIPTION: Manager of Distribution Operations
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the NA Manager of Distribution, you will be responsible for managing all facets of Millipore’s Northeast Distribution Center Operations. The Distribution Manager will direct, coordinate and plan the warehouse storage and distribution of products and materials with a working knowledge of refrigerated and frozen commodities. The position requires management of staff responsible for various distribution functions, including shipping (pick/pack/ship); receiving; inventory control, storage, import/export; warehouse equipment maintenance; materials management; project management; and budgeting.
Primary Responsibilities include:
* Oversee day-to-day operations of finished goods and raw material warehouse. Directs the operations of the warehouse team to achieve objectives. * Manage a staff of approximately 38 with four direct reports. * Effect necessary communication and motivation to staff. Monitors individual performance via observation and review of various productivity metrics. Counsels and disciplines as necessary. * Develop and maintain a productive work team via training and career development. * Consistently promote a strong corporate culture, quality and high performance work teams. * Ensure all customer goals are met or exceeded. Provides feedback to site management and NA DC Manager on a regular and as needed basis. Makes recommendations to resolve issues and effect improvements to overall process. * Promote continuous improvement including strategic reviews for the warehouse related functions utilizing quality process and participation in high performance and self directed work teams. * Responsible for administrative functions such as budgeting, equipment and liaison to Customer Service. * Act as logistics facilitator to ensure that all elements of the domestic and international distribution process are coordinated to meet customer requirements in a timely and high quality. * Develop and ensure that established policies, rules and regulations and procedures are followed. * Develop visible procedure and key performance indicators to monitor quality and regular measurements to determine effectiveness of procedures implemented * Meet or exceed established goals relative to on-time delivery and shipping accuracy performance for customer shipments * Improve operational efficiencies to increase ability to process customer orders using both systems and physical improvements. * Meet with other department heads about sales, purchasing, production and record control, so the warehouse activities remain coordinated and running smoothly. * Keep stock control systems up to date and planning future capacity requirements. * Check and verify shipping records, handle questions or concerns of shipping shortages or overages and address problems with inventory control. * Organize to service each business division while maintaining and improving overall operational and departmental efficiencies. * Interface cross-functionally at all levels within the divisions of the company, including communication with offshore/subsidiary management, external resources and concerns, such as freight forwarders, third party providers and governmental agencies. * Troubleshoot and provide solutions for issues of a moderate to complex scope. * Ensure proper compliance and adherence to all appropriate health and safety regulations and cleanliness requirements are followed both with regards for personal and inventory safety. * Ensure proper compliance and adherence to Export /Import Administration Regulations. * May oversee short duration projects relating to transportation, logistics, export regulations, and related functions.

Skills and Experience Required:
* BA/BS degree in business administration, engineering, international transportation and logistics, or related degree * 8-10 years relevant Logistics and Transportation experience in a regulated global manufacturing environment, preferably in the medical device or a technology focused industry * Measurable accomplishments and experience in a Distribution role with relevant supervisory or management experience. * Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills. * Strong track record as a change agent and innovator in developing and deploying new strategies, business practices and technologies. * Exceptional leadership skills demonstrated by the ability to make difficult decisions, take calculated risks, lead a diverse organization while building a team that is collaborative and results oriented * Solid employee development experience to build a strong internal bench of leadership capabilities. * Must be a self starter, requiring little to no supervision. * Ability to be a positive, energetic team-player, a strong leader, good listener and source of inspiration and innovative thinking * Excellent written and oral communication skills in a global environment. * Experience and training in Lean Six Sigma a strong plus * Strong PC knowledge, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Experience in Oracle and Business Objects reporting a strong plus. * Willing to travel 10% domestic and internationally, with ability to travel on short notice
