JOB DESCRIPTION: Manager, Accounting Operations
? Accounts Receivable - Oversees Accounts Receivable team; Responsibilities include: customer set-up including credit review, customer invoicing, cash application and ensuring proper revenue recognition; monthly preparation and analysis of consolidated DSO, consolidated accounts receivable summary and bad debt reserves as well as accounts receivable metrics.
? Financial Statement Close - Oversees two Accountants and the related monthly and quarterly financial close responsibilities/processes; Related activities include: financial statement review and analysis, detailed understanding of journal entries and account reconciliations; oversight of the fixed assets process; timely consultation and partnership with the Technical Accounting team in ensuring that non-standard transactions are appropriately supported/recorded; and oversight and responsibility for schedules to be provided to the SEC Reporting team for external reporting or to Gilead's external auditors related to quarterly reviews and audit testing. U.S. GAAP knowledge is required. Additional knowledge/familiarity with IFRS a plus.
? Internal Controls Compliance – Ensures business transactions are executed/recorded in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles; Promotes and maintains a rigorous control environment and ensures that any issues related to Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance are addressed timely and are appropriately remediated; Proactively owns business processes and works closely with the internal audit team as it relates to management’s testing of controls. Ensures that day-to-day accounting is consistent with Gilead's corporate accounting policies and procedures as defined by the Corporate Controller's Manual. Attends seminars and webcasts to remain current on areas of expertise and appropriately develops a training/development program for the team. ? Process Improvement - Drives discussion and action in improving existing accounting and/or business processes in a pragmatic way; Related activities include: exploration of ways to automate existing manual processes; teaming with other process participants to explore executable improvements and implement project plans that will help deliver best-in-class workflow and controls; instilling a culture of continuous improvement in a methodical but expeditious manner. Ensures effective change management is coupled with continuous improvement. ? Leadership – Plans and manages corporate accounting initiatives; strives to anticipate and address project obstacles. Manages the team to a high level of performance and development. Works closely with Finance, Business Operations, Legal, operating departments including foreign subsidiaries and senior management, internal and external auditors.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and interact successfully with non-financial personnel. Provides direction and coordination to professional and clerical staff within the department and cross-functionally. Responsible for the timely and accurate review and posting of month end close and accounting transactions; P&L and balance sheet account analysis, review, reconciliation & resolution; and financial analysis. Ensures financial records are in compliance with GAAP. Consistently maintains appropriate internal controls and upholds company policies & procedures including Worldwide Controller’s manual. Interacts successfully with internal and external auditors and supports quarter end, interim and year-end audits by providing timely & accurate data and communication. Evaluates processes and recommends & implements process improvements. Europe Specific Job Requirements Management of a multi-task accounting team necessary to fulfill the accounting and reporting requirements under U.S. and local GAAP including statutory reporting and tax declarations. Develops, implements and maintains accounting systems policies and procedures and adapts to local use where necessary. Will directly support country Finance Heads by supervision of the monthly close process including preparation of related financial statements and supporting documentation in compliance with the monthly financial reporting SOP specific to European Operations. In smaller subsidiaries, can be directly responsible for the Financial Functions.
REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS: Manager, Accounting Operations
Typically requires either a BA or BS degree in accounting or equivalent and 8 years of relevant experience. An MBA/CPA/Chartered Accountant qualification is preferred. Experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry a plus. Experience in multi-national organization a plus. At US and non-US sites, proficiency in written and verbal English is required. Previous supervisory experience is required. Requires in depth knowledge of general accounting policies and procedures and GAAP. In depth knowledge of JD Edwards or equivalent is essential. Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, Outlook, and Word) required. Proficient in all aspects of accounting and finance. Significant experience in a ulti-currency environment is required. Ability to work in a deadline-driven and multi-tasking environment. Must be fluent in English (written and spoken). In depth knowledge of local statutory and tax reporting requirements.
