JOB DESCRIPTION: Medical Writer I 158035 (NCI)
The Medical Writer I provides direct copy editorial support for ongoing/new Clinical Monitoring Research Program (CMRP) projects/initiatives. This position is located in Frederick, Maryland. Assignments are performed independently under the general guidance of the Project Manager. Special assignments or major program developments are reviewed periodically. Follows established guidelines and operating procedures. Proofreads clinical and scientific protocols, informed consent forms, manuscripts, and regulatory documents. Copy edits various documents for content, style, grammar, and readability. Assists with development and implementation of projects. Independently prepares draft documents for senior staff review. Responds to memos and correspondence as appropriate. Assists staff with improving the quality of written communications. Oversees significant re-writes of scientific material. Assists with the development of clinical protocols and reports. Performs other editorial functions as deemed necessary.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent in English, journalism, or a degree in Biological Science with evidence of strong editing/writing ability. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States. No additional experience required beyond a Bachelor's degree. Excellent demonstrated written and oral communication skills that include a superior command of the English language, grammar, and punctuation. Familiarity of Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) related to clinical research. Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word and/or Word Perfect applications. Demonstrated strong skill set to problem-solve, plan, organize, collect data, write/edit in order to function independently or collectively organize others to work within a team setting in the production of high quality deliverables compliant with established guidelines, practices and procedures related to medical writing. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
DESIRED SKILLS: Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Familiarity with document management systems (e.g., Laserfiche) and Reference Manager.
